I think it is important for us to understand Simon's death. We need to understand this passage because it is the death of a major character. Readers need to notice from page 152 to 154 how Jack calls Simon the beast. "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his Blood! Do him in!" Readers need to ask why he did this. They also need to consider that him doing this is a part of his game.
This passage is important because it shows how Jack uses the beast and the fear of it to his advantage. He uses the fear by telling the boys that he will keep them safe. The beast is part of Jack's game to achieve power. Jack also uses pig meat to obtain power, he tempts with it, which is how he got Ralph and Piggy to go to the feast. These two things give Jack power, and this is why this passage is so important.
I agree that Jack uses fear to start his tribe. People think that he will kill the beast, so they do what he wants them to do.
